The Courtyard: from derelict to desirable

Since opening Europe’s largest underground  BMX skate park in the old White Rock baths in Hastings in 2016, owners Rich and Marc Moore had ambitions to transform the old courtyard back to its former glory with a buzzing market retail and food plaza.

The accelerated fund grant from Hastings Town Deal is now bringing this ambition to life, breathing life into the space after laying untouched for over 60 years.

“Hastings Town Deal has provided us with the opportunity to complete Phase 2 of White Rock Baths and open in time for Summer 2021.”

— Rich Moore

“When opening the Source Park in 2016, we always envisaged that a phase 2 would follow that regenerated the most derelict parts of the building and allowed other businesses to operate alongside us and create a seaside hub under Hastings Promenade. It took 5 years for the idea to develop and the right funding opportunity to come up, but I’m pleased to say that The Courtyard will open with 4 new tenants and over 3000ft2 of new leisure and hospitality space that can accommodate up to 300 people, 7 days a week. We’re really proud to play a part in the ongoing regeneration of Hastings”

The Courtyard will offer a new space for their BMX shop as well as an independent bike workshop and other businesses all nestled within the beautiful old White Rock baths surroundings right on the seafront, just a stone’s throw away from the town centre.

Each step in the construction is revealing more and more of the courtyard spaces and history of the building, with all being on track to be completed ready to welcome visitors in June.

Photos show the works underway as well as an artist's impression of the finished courtyard. You can follow their progress here as well as over on The Courtyards official Instagram and Facebook pages @thecourtyardhastings
